Abstract/Contents:Discusses postemergent herbicides, stating that they are "a critical component of almost all lawn care programs because they are most often necessary to eliminate weeds that penetrate preemergent barriers." States that "while preemergent herbicides are great at combating weeds before germination, postemergents control weeds that break through despite a lawn care operator's (LCO's) best efforts to keep them away." Suggests that "because postemergents are so important to lawn care, knowing how to use them properly is important for all LCOs and their crews." Discusses selecting a pesticide, stating that "many factors must be considered when deciding which postemergent herbicide is right [to use]." Suggests that "LCOs learn about the different products available and know exactly what they need their herbicide to do before making a final choice." Discusses selling postemergent services, stating that "LCOs are beginning to take a [different] approach when it comes to selling their postemergence services." States that "straying away from selling individual applications, they are simply offering their clients beautiful, weed-free lawns, a practice they have found saves time and money because they can apply products on an as-needed basis." Discusses "advancements in postemergents to make the products more efficient," including "products with postemergent activity on young crabgrass and preemergent activity on other grassy and broadleaf weeds." Also discusses spraying safety, stating that "safety is critical when applying postemergents, especially in close proximity to residential homes, and the first steps to safe spraying are found on the product's label." Discusses applying postemergents in certain outdoor conditions. Concludes that "if used correctly, postemergents offer LCOs a relatively easy way to provide their clients with green, healthy lawns, which is what lawn care is all about."
