Abstract/Contents:Discusses spotted spurge, also known as milk purslane (Euphorbia maculata), stating that it "is considered to be [a] difficult turf grass weed to control." Details trial plot experiments, stating that "demonstration plots of 150 square feet each were set up by the Nassau Country Agricultural Extension service in a heavily infested area and treated with calcium cyanamid at 215 pounds and 430 pounds per acre respectively; potassium cyanate at 10 pounds of active material per acre in 100 gallons of water; and disodium methyl arsonate at 6 pounds active material in 100 gallons of water per acre." Reports that "one week after the application of materials...no control of spotted spurge was evident in the two calcium cyanamid plots. However, as expected, grass in the two areas was a darker green as a result of the fertilization effect of calcium cyanamid." Also reports that "examination of stem and root tissues also revealed severe discoloration." Concludes that "generally, it would seem advisable to apply the potassium cyanate earlier in the summer, so that no seed has a chance to mature and cause reinfestation the following year."
