Abstract/Contents:"Fensulfothion was applied to established fescue-Kentucky bluegrass turf at 1, 2, 4, and 8× (1× rate = 2.4 kg/ha) to determine its phytotoxicity and efficacy on scarabaeid grub control. No deleterious plant response was noted during or after three applications. Rhizotrogus majalis (Razoumowsky) and Popillia japonica Newman third-stage grub control ranged between 83 and 100% after the April treatments, comparable to diazinon at 6.7 kg/ha as the standard. October examinations showed 100% control of R. majalis grubs; P. japonica populations failed to develop at the test site. Second-year residual activity of fensulfothion, reflected in a May 1980 examination, showed 70 to 100% control, indicating long residual life for an organophosphate insecticide. Turf residues decreased two- to sixfold during a 42-day posttreatment period whereas soil-root residues increased ca. twofold. This probably indicates downward movement by the several natural forces."
