Abstract/Contents:"The main nutrient nitrogen is of utmost importance when considering the management of the greens. But nitrogen can also stimulate the growing of the gramineae as well as the production of the biomass in such a way that they overtop the best possible expectation. Aim of this actual open-air experiment is to find out how five different nitrogen sources (the polymere sheathed nitrogen with long-term effect, two months for PCU2 and four monts [months] for PCU4, then of methylen nitrogen MU, fourth the "isobutylidiharnstoff" IBDU, and the fifth one the sulphur sheathed nitrogen SCU) can influence the quality of the greens as well as the production of the biomass in two seed mixtures (A-50% Lolium prenne, 50% Poa pratensis, B-85% Festuca arundinacea, 15% Poa pratensis; sown with 25 or 35 g per m2). The results for spring and summer 2005 reveal that the origin of the nitrogen, except for PCU4, has no impact on the quality of the green. All five showed comparable divergences. On the other hand the results for the biomass production vary widely. For the first three cuts and during the whole period of growth the SCU as well as the IBDU produced much more swathe, while the other three species showed very little differences. During the first three cuts in spring 2005 the SCU and IBDU producted between two and three times more swathe than other nitrogen varieties. It seems possible to reduce the biomass production during the period of growth with the right choice of the source of nitrogen and yet obtain a green of good quality.
