| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the peat-based "Mother Nature's Wash Pad Treatment System" used at York Downs Golf & Country Club in Unionville, Ontario, Canada. Lists potential reasons that led York Downs to select the system, including "the environment (it uses naturally occuring resources); cost savings (the price is less than half of that of other systems); ease of installation; reduced liability; and an overall sense of coporate social responsibility." Details the functions of the system, stating that "a wet well measuring approximately 1.5 m [meters] (5 ft [feet]) in diameter and 1.8 m (6 ft) deep includes a submersible pump to direct water to the treatment cell as necessary. A valve control either directs water for treatment, or, when equipment is not being washed, discharges it to the existing drainage system." Concludes that "York Downs will be conducting water quality analyses starting in the spring of 2007 to document the effectiveness of the system." |
