Abstract/Contents: | Compares golf course cultural practices to agronomic principles, stating that "the things golf superintendents do at work everyday is wrong, but it's done wrong on purpose...inorder to get the playing surfaces [they're] after." States that "to grow healthy bentgrass, eight full hours of sunlight is required...Sunlight is needed in the fall to allow the turfgrass plant to store carbohydrates in order to survive the winter, and in the spring to get through the season." Suggests that "no matter how advanced an irrigation system is, the best one can expect from it is about 80 per cent efficiency." Discusses installing "sub-surface drainage systems on older, soil-based greens," stating that "generally, it's just a matter of opening that soil up with a trencher and draining that water away." Also discusses venting, aerating, hydrojecting, topdressing, and verticutting. |
