Abstract/Contents:Discusses "fertilizer regimes for bentgrass grown in heat stress environments," stating that "fertilizer needs vary depending on course budgets, playing condition expectation, initial green construction, [and] amount of play." Presents a dissertation project focusing on "nitrogen requirements for bentgrass grown in heat stress environments." States that "granular formations should be used predominantly in fall, winter, and early spring with a gradual shift to liquids during heat stress periods." Also states that "use of other elements should be based on soil and tissue testing. For soil testing, two important parameters to monitor are soil pH and base saturation (or cation exchange capacity, CEC)." States that "in pure or near pure sand situations, like many bentgrass greens are, soil sample information should be supplemented by routine tissue analysis." Emphasizes that "fertility is a balance of elements." Concludes that "using sufficient N [nitrogen] rates at the appropriate times as granulars and liquids plus the balance use of other major and minor elements assures best growth and playing conditions for bentgrass in [the Carolinas]."
