Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "i) evaluate various rates, application timings, and formulations of dithiopyr for crabgrass control; ii) determine the ability of mesotrione to control crabgrass when applied in single or sequential applications; and iii) determine any positive or negative effects when mesotrione is tank-mixed with common broadleaf herbicides." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "various application timings and tank-mix combinations of mesotrione and a broadleaf herbicide (ConfrontTM or Trimec ClassicTM) were made." Reports that "crabgrass pressure was extremely low in the study site and an average of only 10% crabgrass was in the untreated control plots by the final rating date." Also reports that "in addition to crabgrass, the study site had moderate to severe populations of white clover." Describes turfgrass quality, stating that "very small reductions in turfgrass quality and color occured in plots treated with mesotrione and it appears that the herbicide is relatively safe on Kentucky bluegrass."
