Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "illustrate lawn species selection and fertilization practices to homeowners, Master Gardeners and professional groundskeepers." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "the site was planted with five turfgrass species including: i) turf type tall fescue; ii) creeping red fescue; iii) perennial ryegrass; iv) Kentucky bluegrasss; and v) a mixture containing 30% perennial ryegrass, 35% Kentucky bluegrass and 35% creeping red fescue. Each species received one of three fertilizer regimes consisting of varying rates of synthetic or organic fertilizer sources." Reports that "turfgrass color ratings across all species illustrated that treatment 1 had the highest color ratings June 20 [2006] through July 18th [2006] before dropping off to the lowest values of the three treatments in August." Also reports that "crabgrass percentages across all species receiving treatment 1 were highest at mowing heights of 2.5 inches compared to 3.5 inches."
