Abstract/Contents:Discusses potential benefits of sea plants in turfgrass maintenance. Explains that "sea plants contain every element known or theorized to be active or useful in forming tissues in plants: as much nitrogen, half the phosphorus and twice the potassium of farmyard manures; more calcium, magnesium and sulphur than fish fertilizers and emulsions; and all essential trace elements in chelated form." Details the history of sea plants in turfgrass maintenance, stating that "in the early 1900's, techniques were developed to process sea plants into meal...During World War II, techniques were developed to extract the beneficial constituents from sea plants." Concludes that "liquified sea plant extract and granulated seaweed meal offer significant benefits to today's turfgrass professional when included in his maintenance program. Sea plant products are completely safe, act as nutritional supplements, soil conditioners, and help turfgrass resist diseases, pests, and stress. They are truly multiple-benefit products."
