Abstract/Contents:"The experiment was conducted on the University Turfgrass Plots at Fayetteville on irrigated 'Southern Gold' tall fescue that was established from seed in Sep 03 and grown in full sun. The plot area was fertilized with 1, 2, and 1lb of actual N per 1000 sq ft in Sep 04, Nov 04, and Apr 05, respectively, plus an additional 0.5 lb of actual N per 1000 sq ft in Jul 05 and Aug 05 to enhance brown patch. Plots were irrigated as needed to prevent stress, and mowed at 2-in. with a reel-mower three times per wk. The design was a randomized complete block with four replications. Each plot was 4 ft x 5 ft. A spray shield was used to confine treatments to the plot. Treatments were applied at 4 gal per 1000 sq ft using a hand-held CO2-sprayer. Brown patch ratings were based on visual estimates of the percentage of the plot area diseased or dead. Turf quality was rated visually on a 0 (all dead) to 9 (excellent color and density) scale. Brown patch symptoms were first noticed in early Jul and increased slowly. All treatments reduced brown patch compared the non-treated check. Heritage had the lowest brown patch and highest turf quality ratings. None of the treatments appeared phytotoxic."
