Abstract/Contents:"The study was conducted at the University of Connecticut Plant Science Research and Education Facility located in Storrs, CT. Fungicides were applied with a CO2-pressurized (34 psi) sprayer equipped with a flat-fan nozzle (8010E), and calibrated to deliver 2.5 gal water per 1000 ft2. Treatments were applied on the dates footnoted in the data tables. Soil was a silt loam with a pH of 6.5. Turf was maintained at 0.50-in., and was fertilized with 1 lb N per 1000 ft2 prior to initiation of the study. Plots measured 5 ft x 5 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted by R. Solani was assessed visually on a linear 0 to 100% scale where 0 = entire plot area green and healthy, and 100 = entire plot area blighted. Treatments with ratings exceeding 5.0% plot area blighted by R. Solani subjectively were considered to be unacceptable or at the threshold for re-treatment of a golf course fairway. Brown patch became active in the study site immediately following the initial application of fungicides on 30 Jun. Disease pressure increased rapidly and plots not treated with any fungicide had an average of 43% brown patch by 14 Jul. Two weeks after initial treatments, excellent brown patch suppression (ā‰¤ 5%) was achieved within plots treated with SP102000014883 (all rates), Tartan (1.0 and 2.0 fl oz), Insignia, Iprodione Pro, CL-EXP-10, Endorse, Spectro 90, Headway, Manicure Ultra (1.82 and 3.25 oz), Heritage TL, Compass, and Heritage, Insignia, or Compass tank mixed with Revolution. On 14 Jul, between 11 and 23% brown patch was observed within plots treated with all rates of A7402, Spectator Ultra (all rates and tank-mixes), and Revolution. Brown patch activity peaked on 21 Jul and no treatments provided complete control at this time. Except for Iprodione Pro, all treatments providing acceptable control on 14 Jul continued to exhibit relatively low levels of brown patch (1 to 12%) on 21 Jul. Plots treated with 4.0 fl oz of Iprodione Pro did not provide sufficient suppression of brown patch when applied on a 21-day interval. Sequential application of Iprodione Pro 21 days after the initial application, however, resulted in rapid turfgrass recovery. Throughout the study, plots receiving CL-EXP-4, A7402, Spectator Ultra, Spectator Ultra + Manicure, and Revolution generally provided moderate to poor suppression of brown patch when compared to the untreated control. Instrata, applied as a curative treatment on 21 Jul, reduced percent brown patch when compared to the untreated control within 1 wk of application."
