Abstract/Contents:"Experiments for control of pink and gray snow mold were performed on Kentucky bluegrass/annual bluegrass fairways at Breckenridge Golf Course, Breckenridge, CO (elev. 9,300 ft). Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Individual plots measured 5 ft x 5 ft. First applications of five treatments of fungicides were applied 1 Oct 03. A second application of the five treatments and the remainder of the treatments were applied 18 Oct 03. All fungicides were applied in the equivalent of 5 gal water/1000 sq ft. A CO2-powered sprayer equipped with 8003 Tee-jet nozzles delivered the treatments at 30 psi. Fungicide effectiveness was evaluated after snowmelt on 2 Apr 04. Visual ratings were based on the Horsfeld-Barrett rating scale where 1=no disease, 2=trace-1%, 3=1-5%, 4=5-15%, 5=15-25%, 6=25-50%, 7=50-75%, 8=75-85%, 9=85-95%, and 10=95-100%. The results are the means of 4 replications using SAS statistical software. Evaluations were made earlier than normal because of rapid snowmelt in March. The Breckenridge Golf Course installed a Nordic/Cross Country ski course which crossed the fungicide trial plots along the southern border. Disease pressure at Breckenridge remained at low levels. The plots under the Nordic ski course showed very little disease, but did show some turf damage from freeze/frost injury due to the compaction of the snow under the Nordic Ski Course."
