Abstract/Contents: | "This trial was conducted on a 2.25-inch cut rough area at Hoodkroft Country Club, Derry, NH. Each treatment was replicated four times, in 49-ft2 plots, using a RCB design. All insecticidal treatments were aqueous solutions, and all were applied to the plots on 29 Sep. The grass was 3 inches long at time of treatment. The grass was mowed 24 hr after treatment, then every other day, or on an as-needed basis thereafter. There was no precipitation within 24 hr prior to treatment. Due to irrigation system problems, the plots were not hand irrigated; however, rain began to fall within 90 min after the applications. The total amount of rain 24 hr after application was 0.4 inch. All treatment were applied using a 7-ft boom on a bicycle-type sprayer. The boom was equipped with four 8005 flat-fan pattern nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens. The materials were delivered with CO2 pressure, at 40 psi. The vol of insecticide and water was 2 gal/1000 ft2. The soil type was as follows: texture, loam; sand, 51%; silt, 37%; clay, 12%; organic matter, 8.3%. Weather and soil conditions at time of treatment were as follows: sky, overcast; wind, 5- 8 mph; air temp, 62° F; soil surface temp, 59° F; at 1-inch depth, 59° F; at 2-inch depth, 60°F; moisture, 26%; pH, 6.8. The plots were rated for live, third-instar larvae on 20 Oct (21 DAT) by cutting 2 ft2 of turf per plot, 2-inches deep, and folding it back to reveal the larvae. Data were subjected to ANOVA and means were separated using DMRT (P ≤ 0.05). Only the standard Dylox had statistically lower grub counts than the untreated checks. DPX E2Y45 was not effective as a late curative treatment." |
