Abstract/Contents:"Insecticides were evaluated for SCB control in Gainesville, FL. All treatments were applied on 5 Aug and replicated five times in a RCB design. Sprigs were cut from established pots of 'Palmetto' St. Augustinegrass at the University of Florida and were dipped for < 2 sec in either DPXE2Y45, Provaunt SC, or Talstar F solutions. Sprigs in untreated checks were dipped in water only. A piece of 2.75 inch Whatman filter paper was placed in each petri dish (3.9 ^D#x 0.6 inch) and moistened with 0.033 fl oz of water. Five fifth-instar and five unsexed adult SCB were collected from Alachua Co., FL, and one dry, treated sprig (2.0 - 2.5 inches in length, with three leaflets and one node) were added to each dish. Petri dish arenas were kept at room temperature (76.1-76.6Ā°F), relative humidity between 59-60%, and a photoperiod of 12:12 (L:D). The number of moribund and dead SCB were counted at 12, 24, and 48h after exposure. SCB were scored as dead if no movement was made after insects were touched with a camel-hair brush. Moribund was used to describe SCB that were twitching, on their backs, and unable to move normally. Data were arcsine transformed and analyzed using ANOVA. If treatments were significantly different (P ā‰¤ 0.05), a Tukey- Kramer HSD test was done to compare each treatment to the untreated check. Talstar F killed significantly more SCB than any other treatment 12, 24, and 48h after exposure (Table 1). Although Provaunt caused significantly more mortality than the check, at 24 and 48h after treatment, it only provided marginal control in this test. At 12 and 24h after exposure, significantly more moribund SCB occurred in dishes with Talstar F and Provaunt treated sprigs. At 48h after exposure, dishes with Provaunt-treated sprigs had significantly more moribund SCB than any other treatment."
