| Abstract/Contents: | "The considerable movements of soil and the work in connection with planification measures when skiing slopes are constructed in the Alpes greatly change the landscape and the household of nature. By reestablishing a green cover in these areas, important factors, such as soil protection, stabilization of soil conditions and balancing effect on the discharge of water in the areas concerned are no longer guaranteed. When turning nature-close turf populations into artificial turfs the surface discharge of water generally increases by 50 per cent. The continuous application of fertilizer in connection with the maintenance and care of the newly sown turf leads to an entruphication of these sites and to more dirt in the water of many brooks and rivers in the area concerned. The restoration of nature-close plant societies with autochthonous species as required from the point of view of the protection of species and biotope cannot be realized on skiing slopes in the near future. In order not to increase the severity of the present situation in the Alpes, extension or new construction of skiing slopes can only be carried out as an exception. The gradual improvement of existing slopes must be given priority." |
