States that "the turfgrass maintenance industry needs to remind the public that it is a myth to believe that chemical controls were much safer before the introduction of DDT." Details the history of insecticides before DDT was used in 1941. Lists advantages of DDT when it was introduced, including "DDT was a distinct improvement over the existing array of chemicals"; "DDT was available at an inexpensive price"; "DDT was a persistant and long-lasting insecticide"; and "DDT saved war-torn Europe from disease." Describes the use of DDT in Europe after World War II. Also describes the contribution of DDT to the eradication of malaria. |
