Abstract/Contents:Discusses the early, dry fall and the wet, late fall of 2003-2004. Explains that "many superintendents applied their preventative winter fungicide protection and then, they received enough rain to make the fungicides ineffective." States that, "the snow, when it did fall, fell on frozen ground and in some instances the temperatures were a bit too cold for snow molds development." Suggests that "this was the warmest and driest weather in September. There was only one or two days this summer where the temperature exceeded 30°c [Celsius] . The good thing about the weather this summer is that conditions were ideal for growing turf." Mentions insect damage, explaining that the first feeding damage came in mid-May. States that "during the months of June and into July...the greens were damaged because of the starlings pecking out the leatherjackets. Some areas of the greens looked as if they had been core aerated, there were so many holes." Also states that "adult flights of European crane fly were very, very heavy this fall...The peak of adult fight was a bit early...with highest numbers of adult flights the first and second week in September." Concludes that "moss is becoming more and more of a problem."
