Abstract/Contents: | Discusses factors that sports turf managers must consider to determine whether an event is cancelled or postponed due to weather of field conditions. States that "there is the direct revenue for the event, whether it is ticket sales, rental charges or user fees; there are indirect revenue sources, such as concessions, programs and advertising; and then there is the consideration for the rest of the community - hotels, motels, restaurants and shopping centers may be counting on a certain number of people coming to town for the event." Mentions that "even if playing might cause serious damage to the field, the cost of repairing it might be considered small compared to the lost revenue or reputation." Concludes that "in most cases, the show must go on." |
