Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential importance of lining and striping sports fields and offers suggested techniques, stating that "with so many games won or lost by inches, the deciding measurement will often be based on [the] accuracy in defining the playing surface." Explains that "soccer is unique in field layout information, as it lists a range of maximum and minimum field lengths and widths that are permissible, rather than set dimensions." Recommends determining the four outside corners of a field and placing a permanent marker below the surface at those points, suggesting that "whatever the permanent marker points will be, they must be accurate, as the rest of the field measurements will be based on them." Suggests that "tight string lines are the key to painting straight lines" and recommends "[plotting] the sequence of the painting so that crews can complete a section and then move on to the next point without moving across wet paint." |
