| Abstract/Contents: | In this study metribuzen, asulam, and a chemical previously used for minor control, MSMA, were used singularly and in combination in an effort to control bahiagrass encroachment in bermudagrass. Different rates for the combinations were applied. The metribuzin when applied alone had no significant control of bahiagrass, nor did it leave a phytotoxic effect on the bermudagrass. Metribuzin, in mixture with MSMA in two forms, showed both to have no long term control of bahiagrass nor any phytotoxic effects to bermudagrass. The four combinations of asulam with MSMA showed only one to have any significant control, but this control was no better than applying MSMA alone. All four combinations showed no phytotoxicity to the bermudagrass. It was concluded that research should be continued, since none of the combinations produced acceptable control of bahiagrass in bermudagrass turf. |
