Abstract/Contents:"The crude protein content and nylon bag dry matter digestibility (DMD) of autumn-saved 'Coastal' bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) were normal for grass of that age in mid-November, but decreased rapidly thereafter. The decrease was more rapid when accumulation began later in the summer, and when weather in the autumn was warm and wet. Rate of N fertilization in the autumn did not influence DMD or protein content. Animals might be able to make small gains on the youngest grass in November, but could not maintain their weight on autumn-saved pasture later in the winter without supplemental feeding."
