Abstract/Contents: | Evaluating a lawn's characteristics and determining the causes of deterioration are important when selecting adapted species and cultivars to fit the particular soil, environment and use for lawn turf. Basic steps in lawn renovation include: 1) Eradicate undesirable species or weeds with contact or selective herbicides. 2) Remove thatch and/or dead undesirable species by vertical cutting. 3) Cultivat the turf by coring, grooving, slicing, and/or spiking. 4) Correct soil reaction or salinity problems. 5) Fertilize based on soil tests. 6) Seed or install vegetative plantings. 6) roll and irrigate area immediately after planting. |
