Abstract/Contents:Describes irrigation equipment technology which may help superintendents use less water, including sprinkler water heads that can switch from full circles to half circles, soil sensors that dectect changes in moisture deep in the earth, irrigation software that does complex jobs, improved grasses, and advanced technology for improving the quality of recycled water. States that one way to save water in irrigation is with "an overall sound automated system that allows each component [to work] together with the others to use water intelligently." Suggests that improved nozzles as well as the use of low-water-use turf grasses can result in water savings. Discusses the potential of reclaimed wastewater for use in course irrigation.
