Abstract/Contents: | "Spring applications of fungicide and fungicide-surfactant tank mixtures were evaluated for control of fairy ring on 'Penncross' creeping bentgrass maintained under putting green conditions. All treatments were initiated on 22 Mar 06 and reapplied on 2, 3, or 4 week interval (WI) until 3 May 06. Treatments were applied in 0.08 L H2O m-2 with a CO2-powered sprayer and were immediately watered in with 6 mm of irrigation. Type II fairy ring symptoms became evident in late June and gradually progressed into Type I symptoms in mid-July. Two applications of triadimefon or tebuconazole significantly reduced or eliminated fairy ring damage and basidiocarp production. The low and high rates of triadimefon (0.15 g m-2, 2WI vs. 0.3 g m-2, 3WI) and tebuconazole (0.08 g m-2, 2WI vs. 0.15 g m-2, 3WI) were not significantly different. Pyraclostrobin (0.27 g m-2, 4WI) provided significant fairy ring suppression on one rating date, but was generally not as effective as triadimefon or tebuconazole. Two applications of flutolanil (0.67 g m-2, 3WI) did not reduce fairy ring severity. The soil surfactant Revolution (modified alkylated polyol) did not impact the performance of fungicides for fairy ring prevention. When combined with Revolution, azoxystrobin was more effective at low rates and short intervals (0.03 g m-2, 2WI) compared to high rates and long intervals (0.06 g m-2, 4WI). |
