Abstract/Contents:Discusses the potential for situations to arise where water is lacking, explaining that "good, old-fashioned water is the one natural resource most taken for granted, even though it is [one of golf's] most precious [resources]." Explains that "with the typical Midwest golf course irrigation system, the lack of sufficient water supply is usually due to" the irrigation supply lake not being adequately replenished, mechanical failure of a pond recharge well, or reduced production of the well. Discusses three projects initiated to avoid water problems arising from drought-like situations, explaining that in one case, "in 2005, the lack of a water supply became so critical that arrangements were made with the local municipality to run a hose off a nearby fire hydrant to fill the irrigation pool." Explains that "when quality is the problem rather than quantity, it is much more difficult to shake the needed funds loose from the budget." Concludes that "the bottom line is that it is never too early to analyze [the] current needs, estimate [the] future needs, and investigate what [may be needed] to upgrade [the]... water supply."
