Abstract/Contents: | "Dollar spot is a foliar disease of warm- and cool-season turfgrasses that is persistent in nature and can be difficult to control. Control programs rely on rotations of multiple fungicide classes and various cultural practices, including fertilizers. The use of biofungicides in fungicide rotation programs or as tankmixes as well as their integration with a natural, slow-release organic fertilizer was investigated on 'Tifgreen' bermudagrass. All treatments were applied prior to artificial inoculation with Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, the causal organism of dollar spot. Four biofungicide treatments were as effective as the conventional fungicide for controlling dollar spot when no organic fertilizer was applied. All biofungicide treatments alternated or tank-mixed with the conventional fungicide applications can be reduced by alternating with biofungicides. Organic fertilizer significantly enhanced the efficacy of dollar spot control for some biofungicides that when applied alone provided marginal control. Dollar spot incidence was reduced to acceptable levels in bermudagrass when biofungicides were applied preventaitively." |
