| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) that infests and destroys trees. Details potential steps to control the beetle, beginning with diagnosis. States that "most forest health consultants and some certified arborists and professional foresters will be able to perform an accurate diagnosis." Recommends the removal of infested trees and to apply an insecticide to remaining trees, stating that "the insecticide carbaryl (i.e. SEVIN®) is registered by Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for use against the mountain pine beetle." Also suggests the use of pheromones to protect remaining trees. Mentions that if after treatment "infested trees are found, the program should be run again." |
