| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles moles and voles and offers possible methods to prevent or remove them from the golf course. Lists potential signs of mole infestation, including "temporary surface tunnels where the sod is raised and appears as ridges" and also lists signs of vole infestation, including "bark completely removed around the base of trees." States that "no registered mole baits are available domestically. Moles rarely take baits given their feeding preferences." Discusses trapping, recommending superintendents "target tunnels that appear to connect to two or more mounds directly, run parallel to permanent structures (such as fences or concrete paths) or follow a tree line bordering a grassy area." Explains that "good sanitation will help deter voles and other rodents" but that "once populations have built up, the use of treated baits may be necessary." |
