| Abstract/Contents: | Eight accessions of Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) were evaluated for susceptibility to Aceria cynodoniensis Sayed (Eriophes cynodoniensis), under hydroponic culture in the greenhouse. Mite populations failed to become established on FB-119 during an 8-month experiment. 'Tifway' and FB-141 became infested in only 44 and 50%, respectively, of the plants. No difference in infestation level resulted from varied nitrogen levels available to the plants. FB-119 was observed and sampled in field plots adjacent to plots infested with A. cynodoniensis for about 6 years with no infestation of the mite. Susceptible cultivars, however, had continual infestations. The hydroponic culture technique was satisfactory for holding and screening the accessions for resistance. |
