Abstract/Contents:Discusses professional turfgrass diagnosis, explaining that "even...very astute turf managers can find it difficult to accurately diagnose symptoms without use of a relatively high-powered microscope." Suggests that "following the basic steps towards narrowing down a potential problem - looking at stand symptoms, noting what species are affected and observing weather and microclimate conditions - can save a lot of time and money in the long run." Suggests that "any photographs [one] can include, with [the] samples or via e-mail, are usually very helpful." States that "it is very important to take [the] sample from the margin of healthy and symptomatic turf." Suggests packaging the sample "so the plug stays somewhat moist and the soil stays intact" and that "it is important to remember the sample must be sent overnight." Concludes that "a diagnosis should be more of a comfort or comfirmation, except in the case of very generalized symptoms that are difficult to identify."
