| Abstract/Contents: | "The four bermudagrass cultivars Tifgreen, Tifway, Santa Ana, and Common were transplanted to sand culture in 21-cm-diameter and 21-cm-deep plastic pots. Plants were grown in greenhouse conditions. After six week's establishment, plants were given one of six treatments: Plants were cut weekly to 2.5 cm height or left uncut; were treated with 0, 36 or 72 mg.m-2 paclobutrazol. Eight weeks after commencement of treatments, the number of internodes, length of the second internode from the tip of the tree longest stolons, the stolon length for the un-cut plants, the cumulative clipping dry weights for cut plants, the evapotranspiration (ET) rates and the root-shoot dry weight for all plants, were measured. Both rates of paclobutrazol caused a 20% reduction in stolon length and number of internodes, but not in internode length. Both rates also reduced the un-cut plant's shoot dry weights by 50% and the cut plant's cumulative clipping dry weight by 30%. The root dry weight was not affected. ET was reduced by 10% in un-cut and 20% in cut plants by GR. No significant difference was measured by the chosen morphological characteristics or ET rate between the four cultivars." |
