Abstract/Contents: | "Seven tall fescue cultivars (Festuca arundinacea Schred.), 'Chesapeake', 'Rebel', 'Olympic', 'Ky-31', 'Mustang', 'SynGA' and '51W', were tested for salt and selenium tolerances in solution culture under greenhouse conditions. Substantial differences in salt and selenium tolerances were found among the 7 cultivars. Under 200mM NaCl, 'SynGA' showed most salt tolerance. At 5 ppm Se, 'Rebel' showed highest selenium tolerance. Salt and selenium caused different relative growth inhibition between shoots and roots. There was a pronounced reduction in tolerance ratios between 3-week and 5-week growth, but the tolerance ratios generated by the 3-week and 5-week treatments are positively correlated." |
