Abstract/Contents: | "This study examines the effects of timing (spring, midsummer, fall) and site preparation intensity (no preparation, mowing and adding 3 mm topsoil, mowing and vertical mowing, mowing and rototilling, stripping old turf) on the success of resodding with Kentucky bluegrass sod over glyphosate-killed Kentucky bluegrass-bentgrass turf. Evaluation of the treatments includes the degree of stress and speed of recovery of new sod, degree of knitting, the fate of killed turf debris under the sod, and differences in summer and winter stress responses. Preliminary evaluations indicate that higher intensity site preparations result in significantly less stress and more rapid recovery of new sod, but that even midsummer sodding over low intensity site preparation may produce acceptable results." |
