Abstract/Contents:Discusses golf course rating systems, stating that "the Course Rating Game might have begun in the late [1960's] with some American resorts claiming 'Championship' calibre [caliber] for their course. When this was not enough, 'International Championship' quality was touted with little concept of what it really meant." Mentions an article in Golf World magazine and Golf Digest magazine, called "The Top 50 Golf Courses in the World" in 1972. Explains that both magazines "appointed an international panel who were charged with the biennial task of passing judgement under careful guidelines on those courses they have seen and played." Concludes that "US GOLF magazine's Top 100 Courses Lists excite and encourage those courses rated to keep their place against an ever increasingtide of newcomers. International interest and awareness of these published lists has made a significant contribution in raising golf course standards everywhere."
