Abstract/Contents:Addresses a disagreement concerning golf course architect Alister Mackenzie, stating that "while sometimes described as a Mackenzie course others downgrade his influence on the links that is now Royal Adelaide, to that of a passing tourist." Explains that "as early as 1920 the Committee of the Adelaide Golf Club wrote to Mackenzie for an opinion on the bunkering at Seaton. There is no record of a reply from Mackenzie at that time but the Committee did arrange for him to visit the course while his ship was in Adelaide on its way to Melbourne [Australia] on the 23rd October, 1926." Presents an article from Mackenzie that appeared in The News on November 13, 1925 concerning his remodeling plans. States that "two significant changes in the overall architecture of the course were introduced by Mackenzie. The first was to delete the holes that crossed the railway line. This obviated the need to play over the fence along each side of the railway and then to walk through gates or over a style to complete the hole. The second was to incorporate the four sand dunes into the course." Concludes that "the Seaton links could not be classified as a pure Mackenzie course. Nevertheless there still exists undeniable evidence of his influence in the development of this great links."
