| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the practice of rolling putting greens, including the the history of the technique and its rise and fall in popularity. Discusses studies conducted to determine "the effects of turf rolling on ball roll distance" on two experimental sites and reports that "comparisons of rolling frequencies... resulted in enhanced ball roll distance... at both experimental locations." Lists potential alternatives to turf rolling such as close mowing and frequent topdressing, but warns that "close mowing...eventually introduces problems in terms of a weakened turf." Also cautions that "topdressing is more expensive and disruptive of play." |
