| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the process of designing and constructing a golf course so that problems don't arise later. Suggests that "hiring the right design team involves a close look at who the people are and what they are willing to do to not only create a playable design, but also to insure [ensure] quality control." Warns that "cutting corners on the job specifications causes most of the mistakes made on a construction project", and lists examples of this, including "not adhering to the USGA [United States Golf Association] method of greens construction, scrimping on drainage, using substandard materials and poor grading and shaping." Highlights the importance of communication between the superintendent and the contractor, stating that the superintendent "helps formulate the contractor's punch list to remedy as many mistakes as possible prior to the completion of the project." |
