| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the management of patch diseases on golf courses, stating that it is necessary to understand "(1) what causes these diseases"; "(2) how the disease starts and spreads"; "(3) what options are available for reducing the disease severity"; and "(4) how to effectively integrate these options." Explains that "patch diseases develop because the combination of environemental conditions and the health of a plant allow a fungus to infect and colonize the grass roots", and reports that "there are numerous fungi...now known to infest the roots of cool season plants." Lists potential options for managing patch diseases, including "proper fertilization, encouraging healthy, vigorous root growth and reducing stress in the turf", and adds that "on occasion, the use of fungicides need to be amended to a management program to regain the balance in a turf." |
