| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to "identify differences in the winter survival of zoysiagrass cultivars in field plots. The ultimate goal of this research is to expand the use of zoysiagrass in the transition zone, thereby creating more sustainable and affordable golf course turf." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "plant material of commerically available and experimental cultivars...of zoysiagrass was collected in the fall of 2003 and propagated in the greenhouse until the initiation of the experiment. Field plots were prepared by fumigating soil with methyl bromide prior to establishment to minimize weed competition." Reports that "Zoysia japonica cultivars had a mean winter survival of 70.6 percent while Z. matrella cultivars had a mean winter survival of 57.6 percent...Cultivars DALZ0102, VJ, BMZ 230, Chinese Common, PST-R7LT, Meyer, Emerald, [and] PZB 33...all ranked among the cultivars with the heighest winter survival...Cultivars DeAnza, Victoria, Empress, DALZ9604, 6186, DALZ0105 and Diamond all ranked among the cultivars with the poorest winter survival." |
