Abstract/Contents: | Discusses troubleshooting problems on cool season turf, explaining that "the position of turfgrass advisor arose out of a need expressed by golf course superintendents in northeast Illinois for rapid disease diagnosis and problem solving." Reports that "advances in the science of plant pathology have made disease indentification and control more complex for...turf [managers]." Suggests that "some less common disease problems are difficult to indentify and control." States that "when turf problems are caused by environmental or cultural factors, or by a complex interaction of these factors, a greater challenge to diagnostic skills is provided than when biotic agents (fungi and bacteria) are the main cause." Reports that "temperature extremes can also have profound effects on bent/Poa greens, especially when low fertility is combined with low cutting heights, verticutting and other management techniques to increase ball roll." Concludes that "in most cases, the total picture has to be considered to adequately diagnose and correct turf decline problems." |
