Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the role of bunkers on the golf course and different styles. States that "bunkers set amongst wild grasses, drawing upon the classic bunkering at Royal County Down, are part of a fashionable emergence in the pursuit of bunkers with a more naturalised [naturalized] appearance...At the extreme of abstractionism are geometic or representational bunker styles, such as those employed by Desmond Muirhead, that idosyncratic stylist." Discusses the Road bunker on the 17th hole at St. Andrews, stating that "moderate in size, it is deep, steep-faced, carefully positioned within terrain that draws in a running ball and so very, very unforgiving." |
