| Abstract/Contents: | "A value of particle density is required in the calculation of soil porosity. Total porosity of a number of sports turf soils were assessed in using particle density figures that were: i) estimated from the organic matter content, ii) measured using the accurate but laborious specific gravity bottle technique. Relationships between the two sets of porosity data were significant at p<0.001, although porosity values obtained using calculated values of particle density were generally slightly lower than those obtained using measured particle density. The average difference in porosity as estimated by the two techniques was 0.40% with a maximum error of 1.5%." |
