Abstract/Contents:"Various fungicides were evaluated for control of Helminthosporium leafspot and crown rot on 'Newport' bluegrass. Experimental design consisted of a split-plot randomized block design with four replications. The 1967 experiment consisted of 14 fungicides applied at 2-week intervals. The 1968 experiment involved seven fungicides, applied at both 2-week and 3-week intervals with two cutting heights and two N fertilizer treatments superimposed across the individual plots. The plots were evaluated for disease control in terms of a visual 0-5 severity rating scale as well as by grass clipping weights. Clipping weights were not a reliable method of measuring fungicide effectiveness when compared with the visual severity rating method. The most effective fungicides were: 2,4-dichloro-6-(o-chloranilino)-s-triazine, tetrachloroisophthalonitrile, a coordination product of zinc ion and maned, a special formulation of maneb containing zinc, and N-((1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethyl)sulfenyl)-cis-4- cyclohene-1,2-dicarboximide. Based upon the results obtained, a control program was suggested. This consisted of two fungicide applications 3 weeks apart beginning when greening occurred in early spring and coupled with delay of N fertilizer applications until mid-May."
