| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses turf seed development, explaining that "it takes about 14 years to go from concept to bulk production, which includes years of testing, research and development and field trials." States that "germination rates vary among species and climate, but given the right conditions, most seed will typically germinate within 14 days of planting." Suggests that with seed labels "unwanted crop seed can be just as difficult to remove as unwanted weed seed." Profiles bentgrass, which is "used almost exclusively on golf courses, bentgrass withstands a close cutting height and traffic stress making it an ideal choice for use on greens, tees, and fairways in cool, transitional and arid climates." States that "bermudagrass is a warm-season grass that does well in temperatures above 50 degrees." Explains that "Kentucky bluegrass is the most widely used cool-season grass, often found on golf courses, athletic fields, home lawns, and parks." Also profiles fine fescue, tall fescue, ryegrass, seashore paspalum, and wildflower mixtures. |
