| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles large brown patch, focusing on potential control methods. States that "the disease is caused by a fungus known as Rhizoctonia solani," and "this fungus attacks not only most grasses but many other kinds of plants." Explains that "control methods to be of general use must be simple and not costly." Summarizes field observations of large brown patch, reporting that "fungicides if applied during the critical stage are comparatively inexpensive, effective in control, and seldom injurious to the turf." Concludes that "it is possible to forecast the appearance of the fungus and therefore limit control measures to such occasions, thereby effecting a saving in cost." |
