Abstract/Contents:"Peak periods of emergence of adult Popillia japonica Newman and Cotinis nitida (L.) were July 2-11, and July 11-24, respectively, in northern Georgia. By August 21, all beetle emergence was completed. Aggregations of C. nitida larvae destroyed small circular areas of grass, while feed damage by P. japonica was difficult to detect. Mean numbers of adult P. japonica and C. nitida captured were 54 and 2/meter2, respectively. Larvae of both species thrived in an area in which all vegetation had been killed on the previous year by an excessive application of fertilizer. Adult beetles dispersed from the grassland and P. japonica damaged neighboring crops and ornamental plants."
