Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were applied preventatively to a bentgrass nursery maintained at putting green height. Soil was a loamy sand with a pH of 7.2 and O.M. 2.6%. Fungicides were applied 15 and 22 May and 12 Jun 1987 with a carbon dioxide pressurized sprayer in 2.5 gal per 1000 feet square. Rain fell within 1 and 1.5 hrs of application on 15 May and 12 Jun, respectively. Plots were 5 x 5 ft and were arranged as a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted was visually assessed on a 0 to 100% scale. Ratings exceeding 2.0% plot area would be considered unacceptable on putting green turf. Discoloration was visually rated of a 0 to 5 scale were 0 = no injury; 3 = unacceptable discoloration; 5 = thinning and/or browning of turf. A table relating the visual ratings to treatments and rates of various fungicides is included. Brown patch did not become active in the test area until 19 Jun and all treatments except prochloraz suppressed the disease. On 22 Jun, prochloraz and prochloraz + SN 596 treated prots had unacceptable levels of brown patch. Blighting became severe in prochloraz treated plots in Jul. Vorlan + Apache generally provided better control than Vorlan + Fungo, however, most treatments had marginal or unacceptable brown patch levels on 10 Jul. Excellent residual control was obtained by flutalonil and flutalonil + SN 596. Fungo, Apache and Vorlan + Apache generally provided good control throughout most of the test period. SN 596 elicited a blue to purple discoloration to creeping bentgrass foliage, which pregressed to include some browning by 26 Jun at the 2.0 oz/1000 feet square rate. Vorlan treated turf developed a blue-green color that was not considered objectionable."
