| Abstract/Contents: | "This experiment was conducted at the Turfgrass Research Center, NCSU, Raleigh, NC on a bentgrass plot that had slowly declined during the summer of 1986. The soil was a Cecil Gravely Sandy Loam. The fungicides were applied once a month from Mar to Jul. Aerification was completed on 1 Jul. Soil temperatures at the time of the first application was 52 F. All fungicides were sprayed with a carbon dioxide packpack sprayer using the equivalent of 2.5 gal of water per 1000 ft square. Plots were 5 x 5 ft. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Percent infection of plants was determined every 2 weeks by taking five soil cores from each plot. A composite sample of plant tissue including roots was then made from the five cores from each plot and 25 plants were plated onto Triple P selective medium. Two days later plates were examined for Pythium and the colonies counted. A table showing the results of the experiment is included. Diseases pressure was severe early in the season. No phytotoxicity was observed. NO treatments proveded satisfactory control of Pythium root rot in the native soil." |
