Abstract/Contents:A brief infestation of near outbreak proportions by larvae of Delia extremiata (Mall.) (Hylemya extremitata) occurred on brome grass (Bromus inermis and B. pumpellianus) in Alberta in 1971-72. Larval feeding, primarily on meristematic tissue, had injured as many as 20% of the grass tillers examined. The mature larvae overwintered within the tillers. The adults emerged in mid-June. Descriptions are given of the three larval stages of this species and of the mature larvae of the chloropids Olcella provocans (Becker) and Oscinella coxendix (Fitch), which, with O. incerta Becker and Conioscinella melancholica Becker, were also found living within the brome grass sod.
